Maye Musk, a 30-year practicing nutritionist, multi-certified dietitian and Ford Model, knows from being in the fashion industry that quick fix diets and detox are not just popular among young runway models literally “dying” to gain exposure. Musk highlights the fact that, “most of these detox diets are extremely low in calories."

"Some contain laxatives which increase your stool output," she explained. "Others contain diuretics which help you lose water, creating a false sense of success and side effects such as headaches, fainting and muscle wasting. Once you return to your old eating habits, you can gain all the weight, plus some, right back.”
Like many unbelievers of detox diets such as the Master Cleanse, Musk points out the fact that the body already has mechanisms in place to rid itself of toxins made on a daily basis. “If you eat poorly, the body prepares itself to dispose of waste and toxins accumulated. That’s what our lungs, gastrointestinal tract, liver and kidneys are for. They don’t need any extra help from us to do something they have always been designed to do.”
