I would like to thank the following people for their contribution:
My mother, Wyn Haldeman, who painstakingly read each sentence aloud as only a mother could, painstaking for me, that is.
FEEL FANTASTIC - INTRODUCTION
Do you get up some days and feel wonderful? Or, more often, do you get up feeling low - as if you have no energy. Do you feel you have nothing to look forward to, that life is passing you by? Can you relate it to overeating or over drinking the day before? Have you wanted to make a change? By reading the following sections from my book, Feel Fantastic, you have taken your first step towards a healthy and feel-good lifestyle.
Chapter 1 - KEYS TO SENSIBLE EATING
This chapter could also be called REALITY CHECK!
“Hello, my name is Sandy and I believe you can help me lose weight.” This is the opening line when someone calls me for professional services.
Chapter 2 – EASY WEIGHT MANAGEMENT GOALS
People who write down what they eat every day, lose weight, even if that was not their intention. That task is a good start to managing your weight.
Chapter 3 – I STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND FAT IN FOODS
Good fats, bad fats, too much fat? How do fats influence weight, heart disease, diabetes, heart burn and energy levels? Learn now.
Chapter 4 - FABULOUS FIBER
Fun fact – fiber is only present in plant foods.
Chapter 5 – UNNECESSARY SUPPLEMENTS
I’ve always been careful with recommending supplements, as the results of studies change over time. A new study finds that high doses of folic acid may increase the risk of developing precancerous colon polyp growths. Previous studies showed diets low in folic acid led to a higher risk of colon cancer.
Chapter 6 – WATER, CAFFEINE, ALCOHOL
Do we really need to drink 8 cups of water every day? Plus coffee, tea, milk, juice and soda? What about caffeine and alcohol? How much is good or bad?
Chapter 7 – HOW TO READ LABELS
“I want to make healthy choices at the grocery store,” you say to yourself. Picking up a box of crackers and looking at the ingredient list, you see many words you don’t understand.
Chapter 8 - EATING OUT, ENTERTAINING, TRAVELING
“I can’t lose weight. I eat out all the time.”
Chapter 9 – STOP BAD HABITS
STOP STRESS AND QUIT SMOKING
Chapter 10 – EXERCISING – GETTING STARTED
“I feel like a slob when I’m not active. I feel fantastic when I’m active. So I make a point of feeling fantastic as often as I can. Why not? I deserve it!” That’s my philosophy.
Chapter 11- EXERCISE GOALS
Exercise has become an integral part of your lifestyle. No denying it. The feeling you get after your workout is so fantastic, you’ll want to plan it into your routine. No excuses! It is the only way to permanent weight management and all-round better health.
Chapter 12 – FEELING FANTASTIC ABOUT YOUR BODY
Scenario: You walk into a crowded room. People glance at you. You imagine they’re thinking that you’re short, overweight, your shirt is creased, you need a haircut. Reaction: you stoop your shoulders, avoid eye contact and hurry into a corner so that no one notices you.
Chapter 13 – FEELING GOOD GOALS
I probably spend more time talking about self-esteem, and how it is affected by eating than I do talking about food. I want you to feel good about yourself. You want to increase your self-esteem, be less critical of yourself. How do you do this?
Chapter 14 – LOOKING GREAT
Looking good is linked to eating well, having a healthy weight, being active and feeling good.
Chapter 15 – GOALS FOR IMPROVING APPEARANCE
You’re feeling great inside. You’ve improved your eating habits, raised your level of activity and increased your confidence. Now you need to update the new you.
